Shiprite Performance

Our upcoming performance Shiprite will be part of Lorne Sculpture Biennale 2025 STRATA, the Sculpture+ program.

Set at Lorne foreshore, Shiprite is an environment-based live work transforming a shipwreck site with a one-off performance rite of renewal and accumulation. Shiprite involves four specific characters occupying the realms of past, present, future, and beyond time, who work towards the assemblage of Nest as a rite of passage for change. They are Delegates from an Undetermined Stewardship and their actions are inspired by a speculative fictional narrative accompanying the performance.

Artists: Jessica Laraine Williams, Ingrid Petterson, Michael Morgan, Marita Batna, Mathew L Berg.

Event start: Saturday 8 March, 11:00 am AEDT, Landing point: Lorne groyne, meet at Cypress Avenue entrance- click for map or alternative character-based locations below (A-D).

Performance time: Approximately 45 min. At 2:30 pm AEDT afterwards, join us for an informal post-performance talk, discussion, and Q&A at the Landing point. The talk and Q&A runs for approximately 30 min.

Experience the performance as an adventure by selecting your starting location for the Shiprite journey:

A. The Emergence at Lorne Point, below the Surfer’s car park:  follow the Sea Witch (involves a walk along the beach to the endpoint at Lorne groyne)

B. Nest at Lorne groyne (the south side): welcome the Operator and their instruments of Undetermined Stewardship

C. Shipwreck at Lorne groyne (the beach region south of groyne) – observe the First Mate

D.  Landing Point at the Cypress avenue entrance to Lorne groyne – stay present with your real-time Guide.
